The 2003 Tigers - A's - Outlaws Reunion Series

The C.N.R.A. Reunion Series

The 2003 Tigers - A's - Outlaws Reunion Series was fantastic! Chester Field was in great shape and the weather was perfect! Everyone who attended the event had a chance to play some fun softball and renew old friendships from the South Shore CNRA league of the 80's and 90's.

A bunch of guys came from the Ottawa area including Denis Pednault, Paul Brazier and Ted Golding. Outlaws centerfielder, Pierre Valois flew in from Lille, France for the event. Even Boog, our old and drunk Scorekeeper managed to find his way from Marieville just for the event.

The first game in the series was scheduled for 1:00 p.m., but most people were there by noon. Some of the eager Outlaws from Ottawa were seen warming up on the field as early as 10:30 a.m.

After more than 10 years Chester Field looked almost better than we left it. The only things missing were the Port-O-Let and the bases. We substituted the Port-O-Let for a bush on the third base side, and the bases for some styrofoam we found in the ditch beyond the center field fence.

The first game started promptly at 1:00; Outlaws versus the Tigers, but no one remembers what the score was. The Second game was the Outlaws versus The A's and the third game, Tigers versus The A's, but again the score was irrelevant. If you're really interested in the scores, homeruns, ball and strikes, call The Booger for the information.

The final game ended at 5:30 and everyone at the park headed over to Sudseys for beer, pizza, chicken and dogs. It was great to chat and renew old friendships of people we hadn't seen in years.

It didn't end there! At 9:00 pm, most of the hardcore party people headed over to Scottyz Bar in Greenfield Park for more beer and fun. Most people stayed for hours, but in the end, Sylvain Leclerc, Brian Lackey and Ron Zinn closed the place.

Special WARRIOR AWARDS go to Phil Anderson and Frank Sivilla who showed up and played injured, Paul Brazier who sustained 3 separate injuries while playing, and the Kirk Gibson TOUGHNESS AWARD goes to Gord Kirnan for limping out a homer in game three.

No game at Chester Field is successful without the fans. Special thanks to Warren Kidd, Al Macintyre, Al and Melissa Davis, The Runciman Family, Grace Pizzardi, Karine from France, Al and Jackie Furlotte, Jack Wielkanoc.

The biggest thanks of all goes to Pierre "Boog" Tanguay, who assumed his role as the animated scorekeeper as he did in the Tiger's early days.

We had so much fun at The Tigers - A's - Outlaws Reunion Series; we want to do it again sometime. We hope you can be there next time for all the fun!

Paul Brazier's Report from Ottawa

Paul Brazier

The Ottawa- Hull lads arrived in Montreal just around traffic hour Friday night so we decided to hold up in Cournoyer's bar in Lachine. It gave us a chance to try out the local beer, check out our old football field and wait for the traffic on the Champlain bridge to die down. We ended up staying at Motel Canada on Taschereau Blvd which was close to Chester Field. Friday night we headed out to Scotyz Bar + Grill for a great steak, lots of beer and good music. We hooked up with our star ball playing buddy from France and his lovely girlfriend, Karine. We had a great time listening to the band playing CCR and telling each other what great athletes we used to be. Saturday morning came and we headed out to the ball park. It had been 17 years since some of us had seen each other and we all had a great time catching up. We played 3 games and there were many flashes of brilliance from some of the lads. Some of the guys were as trim and limber as they were 20 years ago. Others were not. A few should invest in Kramer's "manzier". Afterward we headed to Sudsey's for some merriment then headed out to Scottyz bar again for more beer, pool and music. A great time had by all. Hope we can do it again sometime.

Comments on the series

AL MACINTYRE, Rockland, Ontario:
Ronnie, once again you have out done yourself. The tournament was excellent and it was great seeing all the guys again. I hope the tournament becomes an annual event.

BRIAN MACKENZIE: A'S:
Once again thanks for the fine work done to organize the reunion series 2003. It was good to see folks suffering after the games just as much as I was.

BOB BOURGUIGNON, City of St-Lambert:
I'm glad your tournament went well. I deeply apalogize for the bases. An employee was asked to install them on Friday evening (maybe it wasn't done, maybe they were stolen, in any case you were meant to have them and again I apologize for the fact that you did not have them). As for next year, you need just e-mail me with your request. Have a great summer.

WESLEY ROBERTS, Tigers:
Sorry, Ron I was not able to make it to the game due to business commitments.

BRIAN LACKEY, Tigers:
Aching all over today, but it was fun. A good time was had by many if not all. Special tip of the hat to those noted "warriors" Paul 'gunner' Brazier and Gordie "Kirk" Kirnan. By games end they looked like they had been through hell, but they were still smiling! {Guido too!} Thanks to RKR for his dedication. "I got too much blood in my alcohol system".
